THE FEAR OF FAT

The diet culture has ruined our opinion on fat, but we are slowly starting to learn how beneficial it is for our bodies. We see a food that is high in fat and automatically think it makes us fat, but fat is actually what helps keep us full! Sure there are the saturated and trans fats we should be moderating and staying away from, but when it comes to healthy unsaturated fats we want to welcome those in!

Why fats? The healthy fats that many foods can provide for us are full of a range of benefits! Not only do they help with satiety, but they also help with insulation in your body to keep you warm and protect your organs. On top of that these foods also help with lowering our cholesterol, cognitive function, and heart health. You are fighting disease by nourishing your body with fatty foods!

What foods fall under the Healthy Fats category? Here’s a list of unsaturated fat foods~

  • Avocado

  • Nuts and Seeds: Hemp, Chia, Walnuts, and Flax are great Omega-3 sources

  • Dark Chocolate-the darker the better

  • Fish: Salmon, Tuna, Halibut

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • Olives

  • Beans and Legumes

  • Lean meats: Chicken and Turkey

  • Eggs

Typically we want to limit the saturated fats food group, but there a few sources that provide important nutrients. Here are some saturated fat foods that are great to add to your diet~all with balance and moderation.

  • Coconut oil

  • Dairy: Ghee, Cheese, Butter, Milk

  • Red meat

No more fear of foods with fats! Let’s reap the benefits of these foods and try to add them to each meal.
